The Maryland screening of the Saul Zaentz High School Film Festival is open to all high school students (grades 9-12) in Maryland and Washington, DC. The movie can be produced in school, at home, in an after-school program, or through any other organization. 

  • No excessive violence and cursing.

  • Running time of your movie must be 12 minutes or shorter.

  • All copyrighted music and images must be licensed.

Categories:

One cash award of $300 will be given to the best film in each of the following categories.

Documentary – Nonfiction storytelling

Narrative Short – Fiction storytelling

Animation – Any form of animation is accepted, as long as you tell a story

Advocacy (Social Justice, LGBT) – Videos made in support or defend of a particular cause

The Mix – Any video that does not fit the above mentioned categories, such as:

  • Music video

  • PSA

  • Cinepoem

  • Experimental

Work in process, commercials, and film trailers are not eligible for submission in any category. More than one entry may be submitted, but for each video a separate entry form is required. All copyrighted material used in films must be licensed.
